Victorian Christmas Cards

Christmas is getting more commercialised every year. At least that is the perception we have. But has it always been that way? Our modern Christmas is largely a Victorian invention based on a mix of Olde Englishe Traditions and German imports that came over with Albert as Prince Consort. Then, as now, royalty were the real celebrities and they led the fashion.

One of the new fangled inventions that were introduced in the Victorian era was the Christmas card. But the Victorian idea of the appropriate imagery was a little different from our own.
