Ten Books to Read this Summer

Summer-reading? What do you look for? Something light and easy to get through. Something long and absorbing? Something challenging? Something familiar?

The BBC has suggested a list (attached). But which Trollope’s would make your Summer reading list?

For me it would have to include:

Barchester Towers because it is a favourite for its satire and the downright hilarious scenes of would-be suitors trying to “land” Eleanor.

Phineas Finn for the trials and tribulations Phineas undergoes in his efforts to carve a political career

The Eustace Diamonds for the sheer joy of Lizzie Eustace’s wiles and schemes

The Fixed Period for some futuristic dystopian light relief

Interesting – I didn’t know that Trollope had ever ventured into dystopian fiction. Just found a piece by David Lodge about ‘The Fixed Period’ here: http://www.theguardian.com/books/2012/dec/14/david-lodge-rereading-anthony-trollope.
