Mr Popular Sentiment supports (Fanny) Trollope

Amongst the authors to whom Dickens gave space in All The Year Round, in addition to his sons, whose juvenile works he published with more than a little paternal polishing, was Fanny Trollope – not Trollope’s mother Fanny but his sister-in-law and incidentally the sister of Dickens’ lover Ellen Ternan.

Fanny Trollope published Mabel’s Progress in the magazine and was afforded star-billing; that is appearing first in the magazine so that her novel appeared on the cover page.

This was not her first novel – she is billed as the author of Aunt Margaret’s Trouble

One wonders what Anthony made of these books, given they have now sunk into obscurity.
