The case for Orley Farm

Continuing our ad hoc series of Trollope novels put forward by readers as the best non-series novel, here are Bob Hughes’ reasons why he nominates Orley Farm.

“Hard to choose still — and I wanted to add Ayala’s Angel, Is He Popinjay and The Way We Live Now. Still, Orley Farm has stayed with me for its exploration of the lies people tell themselves and how they are trapped in them, and the consequences of one’s decisions — even after the truth will out.”

I’m just coming to the end of re-reading Ayala’s Angel as part of an online reading group The Trollope Society group on Facebook and I am thoroughly enjoying it so I can see why Bob gives it an honourable mention.
