US writer wins 2014 Dylan Thomas Prize

Joshua Ferris from Illinois has won the 2014 Dylan Thomas Prize for writers in the English language aged under 40. As I am already past that age, I must resign myself to it remaining a prize that will forever elude me.

Ferris’s winning novel, To Rise Again at a Decent Hour, tells the story of a New York dentist, which is not a character type that ever featured in Trollope’s fiction. The closest he came might be The American Senator.
