Trollope’s Hobbledehoys

I am grateful to Graham Lester who discovered the 2005 dissertation by Mark King about Trollope and his hobbledehoy characters.

These characters in Trollope are some of his most revealing about the author himself as he so often invested them with characteristics or traits of his own or drew on his own unhappy young self for incidents or scenes to flesh out their “back-story” as it is now called.
