Alan Ayckbourn needs an amanuensis

As he got older, Trollope stopped hand-writing his novels and turned to his niece Florence Bland to act as his amanuensis from Cousin Henry onward.

It would seem from Alan Ayckbourn’s comment that he has typed his last five plays with one finger following a stroke which has prevented him from typing normally and this has “wrecked it” – the finger that is, not his play-writing.

Given he has written more than 70 plays and continues to do so, we salute him as a writer in the true spirit of Trollope.
